Emma Bradley celebrates her 106th birthday at The Vosswood Nursing Center

On Sept. 14, 2012, Emma Bradley, a resident at The Vosswood Nursing Center in Houston, Texas, turned 106.

Bradley celebrated her special day with a dinner party in the private dining room with close family and friends. The room was adorned with roses, as well as other flowers and plants.

Born to German parents, Bradley is the oldest of five siblings and grew up in Lee County, Texas. She and her late husband raised their two daughters, Karen and Judy, in Houston, where they met. She now has four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Karen and Judy proudly shared that not only has Bradley been a great mother but she also has a great eye for design. Even during the Great Depression, Bradley kept her home lavishly decorated with handmade upholstery, using whatever she had available. In addition to her talents as a seamstress, she also has a green thumb and prides herself on her beautiful gardens. Gardening is still a hobby, along with watching golf and basketball.

Bradley’s favorite television show is “Dancing with the Stars,” which she watches faithfully.

Her favorite book is the Bible, and when asked what has led to her longevity, Bradley stated, “It’s the will of the good Lord.”

“Mrs. Bradley is such a joy to have here with us,” said Donyell Recasner, activity director. “She has a very pleasant demeanor and wonderful family support system.”
