Life Care Physician Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Life Care Centers of America, recently placed David Smith, D.O., as a full-time, on-site physician at Life Care Center of Melbourne, Fla.
In his new position, Smith will provide patient assessment, diagnosis and treatment. He will work with the Life Care Center of Melbourne team of nurses, dieticians, therapists and caretakers on behalf of each of his patients. His presence in the nursing home will enhance physician accessibility to patients and families. He will aid in hospital transitions and pharmacy communications, and being on-site will allow him to personally respond to medical changes or emergencies in a timely manner.
“When I became aware of the new position for a full time, in-house physician, I knew that this would be a perfect fit for me,” said Smith. “I believe I can make more of an impact on quality patient care if I am there every day at the facility.”
Before entering this new role, Smith worked for Medical Associates of Brevard for five years. He has also seen patients at Life Care Center of Melbourne for the past three years. He has practiced medicine in the Melbourne area for 17 years.
Smith earned his doctor of osteopathic medicine from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. He is licensed in Florida and New York and is board certified in family practice. He has served as a diplomat of the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practice.
Currently residents of Indialantic, Smith and his wife, Linda, have a 17-year-old son named Alex.
