Costumes and candy make Halloween fun at Life Care Center of Winter Haven

On Oct. 31, 2012, Life Care Center of Winter Haven, Fla., celebrated Halloween with costume contests for residents and associates and a trick-or-treating party for the community.

Oldies singer Thomas McGannon crooned for the residents, who enjoyed snacking on Cheetos, festive cupcakes and punch.

Activity associates helped residents dress up in costumes for the contest, and winners received cash prizes. Sylva Waters took first place for her Lucille Ball costume.

“It made me feel young again,” said Waters. “I can’t wait to do it next year.”

Second place went to Helen Scoggins for dressing as Raggedy Ann, and Ruth Etheridge won third for dressing as the house from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The associate contest also brought in some creative entries. First place went to Meg Mattie, assistant director of nursing, for her Army man costume. Lucy Mendieta, a certified nursing assistant, won second place for her kissing booth costume, and Corky Cravey won third for his monster costume.

In the evening, children and their parents from around the area came to the facility for trick-or-treating, and residents enjoyed handing out candy and seeing the kids in costumes.
