Life Care Center of Escondido gives annual nursing aide, team spirit awards

Life Care Center of Escondido, Calif., recently bestowed its 2011 Certified Nursing Assistant of the Year and Team Spirit awards.

CNA of the Year honors went to Shauna Rodriguez, Rhoda Jerd and Suki Grewal, while the Team Spirit Award went to Francisco Huante, plant assistant.

The winners attended a regional banquet in Riverside on Oct. 19, enjoying a limo ride, a four-course meal, presentations by company leaders and recognition of their awards.

Sadie Harness, executive director, praised each of the winners for different reasons.

Rodriguez, she said, exemplifies a "positive attitude and eager approach to caring for others. Her most recent evaluation speaks to the respect she shows to her residents and their family members."

Harness shared that Jerd was nominated because "she addresses a resident need before the resident has to ask for help." For example, Jerd has taken a confused resident for walks outside to calm his restlessness and help him get some fresh air.

"Suki Grewal is a senior CNA with superior leadership skills, taking others under her wing and helping people in all disciplines when they are in need," Harness said. "She's humble, and she's empathetic - she can put herself in anyone else's shoes and reserves judgment."

Of Huante, Harness said, "Francisco has to be the most delightful, the most positive and the most energetic man I've met at Life Care Center of Escondido. No project is too big, no resident need too small. He makes it very clear that it is his honor to serve people at our facility."

Each of the winners received $100, a framed certificate and a dozen roses.
