Residents and associates could order shaved ice with a variety of flavors. Some opted for traditional flavors like orange, grape and cherry, while others chose mango, birthday cake or (the residents’ favorite) a unique concoction called tiger’s blood. Even diabetic residents could enjoy the sugar-free options.
The truck also played the fun, kid-like songs that often herald the arrival of an ice cream truck. One resident said the activity took her back to when she was younger.
“Kona Ice was a one-of-a-kind experience for the residents,” said Cheryl Guetersloh, activity director, who arranged for the visit. “They loved the whole package: music, being outside and creating their own ice flavors.”
