On May 24, 2011, Steve Bender from the Colorado Commission on Aging (through the governor’s office) honored six centenarians at Life Care Center of Pueblo, Colo.
Bender commented on the changes the women must have seen and experienced through the past century. He presented certificates to Edna Reagan (100), Margaret Selvage (103) and Pauline Taravella (100). He also visited with and honored those who had already received their certificates at the local Senior Life Festival – Mabel Spicer (101), Rose Bergamo (101) and Dottie Burkhardt (100).
“Once Mrs. Selvege’s daughter explained to her what the certificate was, she responded with an, ‘Oh. OK,’” shared Bonnie Aube, marketing director. “Her casual response truly portrays her feelings that being 103 years of age is not that big of a deal. We don’t agree – we think it is an awesome achievement.”
