Derek Schmidt appointed vice president of Life Care’s Mountain States Division

Derek Schmidt has been appointed vice president of Life Care Centers of America’s Mountain States Division.

In this position, Schmidt oversees 30 skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities in Colorado, Hawaii, New Mexico and Wyoming.

“Derek’s strong leadership skills and commitment to accountability will be key as he transitions into the DVP role,” said Bart Walker, Life Care’s senior vice president of operations. “He has served in various leadership capacities, and his commitment to outstanding patient outcomes and customer service will continue to be an asset.”

Schmidt most recently served for more than two years as vice president of Life Care’s Longs Peak Region, which oversees nine buildings in Colorado and Wyoming.

Before serving the Longs Peak Region, Schmidt was executive director at Life Care Center of Cheyenne, Wyo., for more than seven years. In 2008, he won one of two President’s Awards for the Mountain States Division, recognizing his passion and leadership in safety and regulatory compliance not only for Life Care Center of Cheyenne but also for other area nursing facilities.

“Every single day I get to make a difference, even if it’s just stopping to give a resident a hug,” Schmidt said. “I am excited about the opportunity to work more closely with the great team we have in the Mountain States Division.”

Schmidt came to Life Care from the Goodman Group in Tampa, Fla., where he served as a regional manager. He is a member of the Quality Health Care Foundation of Wyoming and has more than 16 years of experience in long-term care.

Originally from Wyoming, Schmidt earned his bachelor’s degree in health care administration with an emphasis in long-term care. He and his wife, Korin, have two sons: Tyler and Camden.

Life Care’s Mountain States Division office is located at 14499 E. Hampden Ave., in Aurora.
